Fool's Conecap

Description by @jominime

grows in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Conocybe filaris poisoning, caused by amatoxins, typically presents in stages starting 6-12 hours after ingestion with severe gastrointestinal distress (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain). A deceptive "false recovery" period often follows, before severe, often fatal, liver and kidney damage causes symptoms like coma or coagulation disorders.

Late Stage (2–5 days): Re-emergence of symptoms indicating hepatic and renal failure, including jaundice, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorders), hypoglycemia, delirium, seizures, coma, and potential death.
