succulent perennial herb (Talinaceae) distributed across tropical South America, Africa, and Asia. widely grown as food and medicine. the leaves are eaten raw in salads or cooked like spinach, and are a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium, and omega-3 rich seeds. despite the "ginseng" name, it is unrelated to true ginseng but earns the nickname through a comparable reputation as an energy and vitality tonic.
extract demonstrated cardioprotective effects by modulating ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) activity and the antioxidant defense system, reducing reactive oxygen species-induced damage, preventing hemodynamic and endothelial function alterations, and preventing cardiac remodeling in hypertensive patients (rats lol).
the same extract also protected against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (the cardiac damage caused by the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin) in hypertensive patients.
